Important independent-app and trademark notice

Study for IELTS is independently developed. It is not affiliated with, authorized, approved, sponsored or endorsed by the British Council, IDP IELTS, Cambridge University Press & Assessment or any IELTS Partner. IELTS is a registered trademark of the IELTS Partners.

This app provides original practice and automated study estimates only. It does not administer the IELTS test, reproduce official test questions, provide official scores, or promise any band score, improvement, admission, immigration outcome or other result.

Common questions

Choose a question to open the answer.

Where should I start?

Open Today for a suggested study session, or Plan to explore the 12-week route. Use Practice for daily activities and individual skills, Flash Card for vocabulary, and Review to revisit work that is due.

Do I need an account, subscription or payment?

No. Version 1.0 is planned as a free app with no account, subscription or in-app purchases. Occasional full-screen ads may appear after you finish practice.

When do ads appear, and how do I manage ad privacy?

An ad may appear after you choose Finish practice following a completed session. Ads do not interrupt active questions or speaking recordings. If no ad is available, practice finishes normally. Open Today → Privacy & Support for ad privacy information. Where required, Manage ad privacy choices lets you revisit Google's consent form. Ad privacy is separate from optional usage sharing.

Is usage sharing required?

No. Firebase Analytics stays off unless you choose Share usage. Choose No thanks or keep studying without answering; every learning feature remains available. You can change the choice in Today → Privacy & Support → Share app usage. Turning it off stops future analytics collection but does not automatically erase reports already received by Google. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Is this an official IELTS app?

No. Study for IELTS is an independent preparation app. It is not affiliated with, authorized by or endorsed by the IELTS Partners. For test registration, official results or current test requirements, contact an official IELTS Partner.

Are band estimates or speaking results official?

No. The app uses automated study estimates and simple feedback rules. They are not official examiner scores or validated predictions, and no result is guaranteed. Speech transcription does not measure pronunciation accuracy. Use the feedback to choose what to practise, not as proof of a test score.

How do I start speaking practice?

Open Practice → Speak, choose a question, then choose Start unaided attempt. Start recording when you are ready and allow Microphone and Speech Recognition if asked. Finish your attempt to review the transcript and study feedback.

Why won't recording or speech recognition start?
  1. In iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security, check both Microphone and Speech Recognition access for Study for IELTS.
  2. Return to the speaking exercise and tap the recording control again if recording did not start after you granted permission.
  3. Check your internet connection if on-device recognition is unavailable. Apple's Speech service may need a connection.

If the problem continues, contact support with your iPhone model, iOS version and the message shown in the app.

Why is there no listening audio?

Raise your iPhone's media volume and check whether audio is being sent to Bluetooth headphones or another output. The app uses Apple's speech voices; voice availability and quality depend on your device. Try another listening activity, then reopen the app if needed.

Does the app work offline?

Lessons, practice content, flashcards and learning progress are stored on your device. Speech recognition may need the internet when on-device recognition is unavailable. Ads, optional usage sharing, external reference links, support email and downloading additional system voices also use a connection. Ads failing to load do not block learning.

How do flashcards and Review work together?

Study vocabulary in Flash Card and record whether you remember each item. Items needing more practice can return in Review. Review timing follows your work and recall history, so an item may be scheduled for later instead of appearing immediately.

How do I add the vocabulary widget?

Touch and hold an empty area of your iPhone Home Screen, choose the option to add a widget, then search for Study for IELTS or Study Vocabulary. Choose a size and add it. If it is missing after installation, open the app once and try again.

How do I control study reminders?

On Today, find Daily Practice reminders and use the Hourly Daily Practice reminders switch. Reminders are optional and local to your iPhone. They are scheduled during study hours, from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, for unfinished daily practice. Check notification permission in iPhone Settings if they do not appear.

Is my progress synced or backed up by the app?

Version 1.0 stores learning progress locally. It has no account-based sync or in-app backup export. The developer cannot recover data you reset or delete. Any device backup you choose to use is managed separately through Apple.

How do I delete my learning data?

From Today, open Privacy & Support using the shield button, then choose Reset learning data and confirm. This removes progress, review history, flashcard ratings and the daily vocabulary study plan, and turns off study reminders. Resetting cannot be undone. Deleting the app removes its remaining local data; manage any device backups separately.
